EuroVelo, the European cycle route network

Visit our ITB event website to find out more about our booth, the main highlights and the Cycle Tourism Day, which we are organizing in cooperation with the ADFC!

The European cycle route network, is a project of the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF). ECF is an umbrella federation for national cycling organisations (organisations which promote bike for urban mobility) throughout Europe.

ECF has been the voice of European cyclists for 30 years. Representing organisations in 40 countries with over 500,000 active members, the ECF is pledged to ensure that bicycle use achieves its fullest potential so as to bring about sustainable mobility and public well-being.

The aim of the ECF EuroVelo project is to promote and coordinate the creation and operation of a complete European cycle route network, the EuroVelo network, crossing and uniting the whole European continent. This is the truly sustainable Trans-European Transport Network. EuroVelo is a network of 16 long distance cycle routes connecting and uniting the whole European continent. The routes can be used by cycle tourists as well as by local people making daily journeys. With nearly 90,000 kilometres of routes, you can explore Europe by bike!

EuroVelo:
Promotes economically, environmentally and socially sustainable travel; improves the quality of EuroVelo routes in all participating European countries; promotes the uniform signing of EuroVelo routes in accordance with published standards; provides Europe-wide information on EuroVelo routes and national cycle routes; supports the development of national coordination centres for EuroVelo route and national routes; and fosters exchange of experience and best practice between European states and regions, stimulating high quality cycle strategies and infrastructure.
EuroVelo implementation and quality assurance is coordinated by the ECF in collaboration with National EuroVelo Coordination Centres and Coordinators. The network can be supplemented by the addition of new routes, provided these fulfill EuroVelo criteria, meet EuroVelo quality standards, complement the existing EuroVelo routes in spatial terms and increase the implemented percentage of the current network.
